Food is a topic that will never grow old. I’ve been discussing whether pineapple goes on pizza since the Cheetah Girls were still making movies. Some conversations get heated, and others are just outlandish. Let’s dive into some popular food debates.
Is a hot dog a sandwich?
According to Merriam-Webster, a sandwich is “two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between.” Looking at the definition head-on, I suppose you could call a hot dog a sandwich. If we allow that title, what kind of sandwich would it be: a sub or an open-faced sandwich? From my perspective, I’d consider it an open-faced sandwich due to the fact that neither side of the bun touches to seal the meat inside.
I’ll stick to calling it a hot dog, but I appreciate how passionate some people are about the cause.
Does pineapple belong on pizza?
I know what you’re thinking: This one is overdone. I agree, but how could I write about food discourse without including the discussion of pineapple on pizza? I’m personally not a fan of adding any kind of fruit to pizza — besides tomatoes — but I’d never be upset at someone else for doing it. Would I order a pineapple pizza for a group of people? Absolutely not. If everyone but me wanted a pineapple pizza, would I make a huge fuss? No, I’d pick it off. I’m not very creative with my pizza order yet, so for now, I’ll stick to pepperoni.
Should you pour or dip sauce?
I’m not sure if this is the biggest discussion to be had when talking about food habits, but it must be mentioned. Do you pour your sauce over your food, or do you dip your food in your sauce? I’m a dipper, and frankly, I think that if you pour sauce over your food, you might have a few loose screws. How do you eat without getting your fingers messy? Do you have to use a fork to avoid dirty hands? These questions are entirely avoidable by simply dipping. Although I’m a dipper, I appreciate the fun nature of drizzling sauce.
What belongs on eggs?
Eggs. A delicacy. Perhaps the most diverse breakfast option. You can scramble, fry, boil and really do whatever you want with eggs. That being said, people get creative with their choices when dressing eggs. I like to add green onions if I’m feeling savory. If my sweet tooth is activated, I dip them in some syrup. I get that that one’s a little weird, but don’t knock it until you try it.
Ketchup is probably the most popular flavor combination people add to their eggs. I’m not the biggest ketchup and egg girl, but it’s not the worst. I’d love to get more creative with my egg combinations, but for now, I’ll stick with onions and syrup.
