The fall sports schedule is here as Baylor soccer is already underway and three other Bear sports are set to open up their seasons this weekend. The first on campus events officially get going on Friday with volleyball and soccer, while football kicks off on Saturday.
Here is a brief rundown on everything you may have missed while Baylor Athletics has been on the road:
Baylor soccer sweeps Outrigger Invitational
In her third year at the helm, head coach Michelle Lenard has her Bears (3-1) off to their best start since 2019. The green and gold knocked off Hawaii 1-0 on Wednesday, then followed up the tight match with a win over Portland by the same score on Saturday. The pair of shutouts at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in Waipahu, Hawaii kept Baylor’s record spotless in the Outrigger Invitational.
Sophomore forward Callie Conrad scored both of the Bears’ goals in Hawaii, upping her career goals scored to four. Senior TCU transfer goalkeeper Azul Alverez played all 180 minutes during the trip and tallied 12 saves en route to adding two shutouts to her resume.
The green and gold will look to keep their hot streak rolling against Texas A&M. The Bears and Aggies landed a 1-1 tie in last year’s Battle of the Brazos in College Station. The contest is set for 8 p.m. on Friday at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
No. 23 Baylor volleyball wraps up exhibition play with 3-1 loss against Texas A&M
Head coach Ryan McGuyre and the Bears followed up their annual Green and Gold game in the Ferrell Center by hosting Texas A&M for the final exhibition game before the regular season. The Aggies took the match in three straight sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21, before Baylor landed its only set 25-21 in a “for fun” finale.
The Bears await their season opening double header at the Ferrell Center on Friday. The green and gold open the day with an 11:30 duel with Abilene Christian University before taking on Tulsa at 7:30 for the nightcap. Both matches will be aired on ESPN+.
A look ahead:
With just a few days left in August, the Baylor Athletics schedule is set to hit hard and heavy in September. Following the home openers on Friday, volleyball will host Campbell at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 in the Ferrell Center. The Football team kicks off the season against Tarleton State at McLane Stadium at 6 p.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, cross country will open their season on the road at the UIW Twilight in San Antonio on Friday.
Men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and equestrian are all scheduled to get rolling in September, so stay up to date with all things Baylor Athletics @BULariatSports on X, formerly known as Twitter, or baylorlariat.com/sports.
