Baylor men’s golf opened its season in winning fashion on Monday, winning the Rice Intercollegiate at Houston’s Westwood Golf Club shooting 13-under par 563 on 36-holes.

The Bears were in a hole early, as they trailed by 5-shots after the first round. However, Baylor turned it around in the second round to win in convincing fashion. The Bears were led by their freshmen, as Baylor had three individually finish in the top-16 of the competition.

Behind Baylor was Houston, who shot -7 for the competition, Sam Houston State who shot +6, Lamar who shot +12, Rice who shot +30 and Houston Baptist who shot +31. Baylor led the competition in par-3 scoring, par-4 scoring, par-5 scoring and birdies, showcasing complete dominance over the rest of the field.

Baylor senior Colin Kober and freshman Johnny Keefer were integral in the victory, as they tied for first place on individual scores, both shooting 5-under-par 139. Keefer led the tournament with 12 birdies on the day and shot a career-best 6-under 66 in the afternoon.

Junior Ryan Grider tied for third place, shooting a 3-under 141, while freshman Trey Bosco tied for ninth place at 1-over 145. Freshman Tyler Isenhart and sophomore Brandon Hoff rounded out the Baylor team, as they shot 4-over 148 and 7-over 151 respectively.
