Baylor women’s tennis (16-12, 4-5) dropped its final regular season match Friday night. The 25th ranked Lady Bears fell 4-0 to No. 5 Texas (19-4, 9-0) in Austin.

Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano said that Texas was every bit as good as advertised.

“All the credit goes to Texas. They’ve played great all season and are having a lot of success,” Scrivano said. “Today, was a good opportunity for us to see where we’re at, and now we have to focus on preparing ourselves for what’s next at the Big 12 Championship.”

The Longhorns collected the doubles point, first by earning a dominant 6-0 win on court one. Senior Theresa Van Zyl and sophomore Jessica Hinojosa were leading 5-3 on court two when Texas finished off the freshmen duo of Giorgia Testa and Livia Kraus 6-2 on court three.

In singles, Texas went up 2-0 as senior Dani Wagland picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over sophomore Angie Shakraichuk on court six. Baylor sophomore Camilla Abbate was the next to fall, as she suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss on court three.

Van Zyl then fell to the top ranked singles player, sophomore Bianca Turati 6-2, 6-2 on court one to close the match out for Texas.

Texas also had leads on courts two and five when the match concluded. Kraus was the only Baylor player leading in singles, as she was up 6-3, 4-2 when the match was called.

Baylor will now turn its attention to the Big 12 Tournament, which begins Thursday in Austin. The Bears’ opponent has yet to be determined.
