Baylor University announced Tuesday that Dr. Edwin Trevathan is resigning as executive vice president and provost.

After prayerful consideration and consultation with my family, we have decided that the position of executive vice president and provost at Baylor University is not a good fit for us,” Trevathan said in a statement released by the university. “I have, therefore, decided to step aside from my role as EVP and provost. I will retain my appointment as Professor of Neuroscience.”

Trevathan was appointed the position in June. Before coming to Baylor, he was a professor of Epidemiology in the College for Public Health and Social Justice at Saint Louis University. His appointment followed the resignation of Dr. Elizabeth Davis, who accepted a position at Furman University as president in March of 2014.

“As I make this decision, which is in the best interest of my family and me, I maintain the highest regard and deepest respect for Baylor University, its faculty and staff.”

“I know that Ed and his family have come to this judgment after a great deal of thought and prayer, and so I respectfully accept their decision,” said President and Chancellor Ken Starr.

“We have benefited from so many of Ed’s talents, including his wonderful creativity and analytical skills, as well as his vast experience in sponsored research, medicine and science. We are grateful for his dedicated service to Baylor University and the manner in which he has helped position us for future success.”

The Assistant Vice President for Media Relations and Crisis Communications, Lori Fogleman, added her caring acceptance and acknowledgment of the decision Dr. Trevathan made.

“It was a decision made by the provost today and we respect the decision made by him and his family,” Fogleman said.

Starr has appointed Dr. Todd Still, holder of The Charles J. and Eleanor McLerran Delancey Chair of the Dean of Truett Seminary and professor of Christian Scriptures, as interim provost while Starr and his staff search for a replacement in Dr. Trevathan’s absence.
