Sam Ukwuachu, former Baylor football defensive end and 2015 graduate, was found guilty on Thursday in Waco’s 54th State District Court on two counts of sexual assault, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported.

This decision is the result of a three-day trial that took place this week after prosecutors and his defense attorney selected the jury Monday.

He was charged with sexually assaulting a former Baylor student in an off-campus apartment in October 2013.

Baylor University issued a statement about sexual assault following the court decision. It reads:

“Acts of sexual violence contradict every value Baylor University upholds as a caring Christian community. In recent years we have joined university efforts nationally to prevent campus violence against women and sexual assault, to actively support survivors of sexual assault with compassion and care, and to take action against perpetrators. We have established and fully staffed a Title IX office that employs a Title IX Coordinator and two full-time investigators. Maintaining a safe and caring community is central to Baylor’s mission and at the heart of our commitment to our students, faculty and staff.”

Ukwuachu originally played football for Boise State after signing out of Pearland High School. He was dismissed from the Bronco team for unspecified reason after a Freshman All-America season and transferred to Baylor.

Ukwuachu was listed on the roster, but sat out the 2013 season because of transfer rules. He was removed from the team roster in Spring 2014.
