SAN DIEGO – The Bears are firing on all cylinders as they lead the No. 17 UCLA Bruins 35-10 at halftime of the Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl.
Senior quarterback Nick Florence picked up right where he left off at the end of the first quarter. Florence is 8-11 with 174 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 23 yards.
These first-half numbers helped Florence surpass former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III’s single-season passing record.
The running back tandem of sophomore Lache Seastrunk and junior Glasco Martin has also been impressive for the Bears. They have combined for 138 yards and three touchdowns. Martin has found the end zone once in each quarter, and Seastrunk had an impressive 43-yard rushing touchdown run towards the end of the half.
The Bears’ defense has recorded five sacks and eight tackles for loss. This is impressive considering Baylor only recorded 13 sacks all season long.
UCLA managed to score two plays after recovering a junior tight end Jordan Najvar fumble deep in Baylor territory. The Bruins also drove the field to kick a field goal with :07 left to play in the half.
