Considering the Bears’ lofty preseason ranking of No. 19 in the country, it’s difficult to see this season as nothing short of bittersweet.
Sure, it’s fantastic for head coach Scott Drew and seniors Pierre Jackson and A.J. Walton to go out on top in with an NIT championship, but the NIT was never the goal for this group of Bears.
After a successful meet at the Texas Relays last weekend, the No. 23 men’s and No 14 women’s track and field teams turn their attention to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.; home of the relay teams that bettered the Bears twice last weekend. This will be the team’s first Florida Relay.
The Baylor men’s golf team will compete in its fifth tournament of the season at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga., at the Forest Hills Golf Club. The tournament will be hosted by Augusta State University and will be played all day on Saturday and Sunday.
It will be a battle between two powerhouse teams. The No. 17 Baylor Lady Bears have a tough task ahead of them as they begin a three-game series against the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners from today through Sunday in Norman.
NEW YORK – The Baylor Bears won the NIT championship by defeating Iowa 74-54 Thursday and cut down the nets in victory at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The NIT trophy is Baylor’s first-ever NIT Championship, and the Bears also became the first Big 12 team to ever take home the NIT hardware.
The Baylor men’s basketball team will take on the Iowa Hawkeyes tonight in the NIT Championship game at Madison Square Garden. The game will tip off at 8 p.m.
The Hawkeyes are 25-12 on the season and are coming off of a 71-60 win over Maryland.
The Baylor Bears extended their winning streak to three games after defeating the Dallas Baptist Patriots 6-1 Wednesday night.
While Baylor’s three pitchers combined for just four strikeouts, they only gave up one run. Junior left-handed pitcher Doug Ashby closed the game and didn’t allow a hit in the 2.2 innings he pitched.
It was an emotional Sunday night for the No. 1 Baylor Lady Bears when the journey for a second consecutive National Title came to a close after a heartbreaking 82-81 loss to No. 5 Louisville Cardinals.
The Baylor campus and Waco community are still in shock, trying to process how this could have happened. Many fans had already bought Final Four tickets and were planning a trip to New Orleans months in advance. Now with the Lady Bears out of the tournament, many are trying to sell them.
