The No. 2 Baylor equestrian team came out of the Fresno State Invitational with a loss to 1-1 advancing its record to 8-3. The Bears had a close match Friday against Fresno State, but ended with a score of 8-7. On Saturday, the Bears came back with a vengeance to beat SMU 13-3 in Fresno, Calif.

Baylor baseball earned its first series sweep of the season against defending Ohio Valley Conference champ Austin Peay State University after winning 4-2 Friday, 15-1 Saturday and 12-1 Sunday. All three games exposed APSU’s weaknesses.

After seemingly being on pace to fall out of even the National Invitational Tournament conversation, let alone the NCAA Tournament, Baylor basketball has raced back into the postseason picture after a four-game Big 12 Conference winning streak.

The No. 6 Lady Bears defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 96-89 Monday at the Ferrell Center. Baylor nearly blew a sizable lead at halftime, but held on in the end to continue to be in the top spot for the Big 12 title.

It has all been about the wins for head coach Steve Smith. He helped make Baylor baseball into a Big 12 powerhouse. Smith is in the middle of his 20th season with the Bears, but this season marks a special new experience for him— coaching his two sons at Baylor.

Junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Smith and freshman first baseman Case Smith are both members of Baylor’s baseball team and are coached by their father at the collegiate level.

Six Baylor football players have been invited to the 2014 NFL Draft Combine from Feb. 22-25 in Indianapolis, Ind. The six hope to join 10 other former Bears currently in the NFL by being selected in May’s 2014 NFL Draft in New York City. Baylor’s graduating class features two All-Americans and five All-Big 12 team members.
