After their hot start to open the season, No. 12 Baylor softball was tested in a mid-week double-header against Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The Bears split the games, losing 4-3 in extra innings to start, but exploding out to a 12-0 run-rule win in the second.

In their first midweek game away from Baylor Ballpark, the No. 29 Baylor Bears could not overcome UT-Arlington’s hitting onslaught in a 14-3 shellacking Tuesday night. The Arlington Mavericks decimated Baylor’s pitching staff and broke the Bears’ five-game win streak against.

SAN ANTONIO – When Baylor sat at 2-8 in conference play in January, even the National Invitational Tournament started to look like a fading possibility. But the Bears defied the odds and booked their tickets to the Sweet 16 in Anaheim, Calif., after wins over Nebraska and Creighton on opening weekend.

The No. 2 seed Baylor Lady Bears battled the quick and explosive No. 7 seed California Golden Bears in front of a rocking crowd at the Ferrell Center Monday. Baylor came out on top 75-56 after leading only by one at the half. The Golden Bears would not give up an inch in the first half, but ran out of gas in the second.

Creighton forward Doug McDermott was the leading scorer in all of college basketball this season. The Bluejays were the most efficient offensive team in basketball. Baylor didn’t seem to care.

Baylor baseball protected its home turf in a 2-1 series win over the No. 20 Oklahoma State Cowboys over the weekend with a 4-1 victory on both Friday and Saturday, but lost the chance at a series sweep with a 4-1 loss on Sunday. The two wins marked Baylor’s sixth and seventh wins this season against a ranked opponent, and the Bears now hold a 12-3 record at Baylor Ballpark.

The No. 2 seed Lady Bears took care of business in their opening game of the NCAA Tournament, defeating the No. 15 seed Western Kentucky Lady Toppers 87-74 Saturday at the Ferrell Center.
