The No. 5 Lady Bears easily handled 15-seed Northwestern State Friday afternoon at the Ferrell Center by a score of 77-36. Baylor switched on the cruise control after jumping out to an early double-digit lead over the Lady Demons.

Waco will play host to just a fraction of the madness to ensue in college basketball across the country. For the second-straight year, the Ferrell Center will be a venue for games of the first and second round of the NCAA tournament.

No. 6 Baylor women’s tennis dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 30 Texas A&M on the road Thursday evening, losing its fifth-straight match to the Aggies.

Baylor seemed to have it. The game was a little close for comfort throughout, but Baylor held a two-point lead with its best free-throw shooter at the line. Senior guard Kenny Chery stepped up for a one-and-one opportunity, 15 seconds remaining, his Baylor career on the line. As he had done 186 times before in his Baylor career, he went through his motions and shot a free throw. It ricocheted off the back iron.

Baylor baseball fell 4-3 to Sam Houston State Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark just after beating the Bearkats by the same score in extra innings on Tuesday. Baylor (7-13, 0-3) recently ended its 10-game losing streak only to win one game before returning to the losing column.

Baylor football gave nearly a dozen former players an opportunity to perform in front of NFL scouts at its 2015 Pro Day at the Allison Indoor Practice Facility on Wednesday. Quarterback Bryce Petty was the main attraction for the dozens of scouts assembled.

The NCAA tournament field is set and three-seed Baylor knows who its opponent will be in the second round on Thursday. That will be the 14-seed Georgia State Panthers, winners of the regular season and postseason Sun Belt conference championship.
