While outdoor conditions fluctuate around chilly temperatures, Baylor Athletics stayed warm during winter break with a busy schedule. From bowl games to the first meet of the season, now that school is back in session, it’s time to catch up on everything you may have missed since finals.
With nothing to lose, No. 25 Baylor women’s basketball put No. 1 UCLA on the ropes early, but dominant post-play by the Bruins kept them undefeated, taking down the Bears, 72-57, in the inaugural Coretta Scott King Classic Monday afternoon at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Being a college athlete is incredibly mentally challenging but what most people don’t realize is what all goes into being great and making it within the ecosystem of student athletes.
The Bears hosted NCAA singles and doubles individual championships, separate from team championships for the first time, in November.
Adversity can oftentimes rattle and break the morale of teams. This is not the case, though, head coach Michael Woodson and Baylor men’s tennis. They have learned from their first-round postseason exit against San Diego last year and are hungry to take on the 2025 season after a dominant fall.

Men's Basketball
Senior guard RayJ Dennis joins a Baylor men’s basketball program that doesn’t have any other senior guard on the roster.
Coming off another second-round exit in the NCAA Tournament, Baylor men’s basketball is up and running after its first fall practice on Tuesday ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Baylor basketball’s new home, the Paul & Alejandra Foster Pavilion, is projected to open on Jan. 2 for the men’s team and Jan. 3 for the women’s.

After a competitive first half of play, the Bears came alive in the second half to surge past the Horned Frogs, outscoring them 47-25 following the halftime break.
A 29-point fourth quarter helped No. 10 Baylor women’s basketball grind out a 75-57 win over West Virginia University Saturday night in the Ferrell Center
No. 10 Baylor women’s basketball made it look easy Wednesday night, scoring a season-high 95 points to beat Kansas State University by 45 in the Ferrell Center.
Equestrian
After hunter seat wins over SMU and Sacred Heart last Saturday, equestrian faces Fresno State, TCU and South Carolina in a multi-team competition in Fresno, Calif. on Saturday and Sunday.
At 5-5, the team travels to Texas A&M for an 11 a.m. matchup Saturday. Baylor looks to score an upset over the 8-0 Aggie squad.
Tennis
The Bears hope to build a foundation toward a championship run when they close the fall season at the Big 6 tournament in North Richland Hills.
Baylor tennis and women’s golf have been selected as postseason host sites for May 2025 and May 2026.

The 2025 World Series saw two teams in the top-5 payrolls in MLB. The league seems destined for a lockout following the 2026 season due to the issue of implementing a salary cap. While the billionaire owners and millionaire players bicker over finances, there remains a question about what will happen to the fans.
Missi was tabbed as the 22nd overall pick in ESPN’s Mock Draft on April 17, while Walter was projected in the lottery at No. 12. Fraschilla said they’re both “prototype NBA players once they physically mature in the next two, three, four [or] five years.”
