So when Texas State landed a last-minute goal to prevent a loss for the first time in program history at Betty Lou Mays Field, a tie felt even worse than a loss.
No. 18 Baylor volleyball returned to form in the final matchup of the Baylor Invitational, sweeping Samford in three sets, 25-13, 25-19, 25-12, Sunday afternoon at the Ferrell Center. After a difficult week that included being swept by SMU and a less-than-perfect win over LSU, huge offensive performances from junior opposite hitter Allie Sczech and senior outside hitter Elise McGhee propelled the Bears to their seventh win of the season.
After forfeiting three fumbles and controlling the ball for just 5:55 in the first half, Baylor football erupted for 25 second-half points as redshirt junior quarterback Sawyer Robertson propelled the Bears past Air Force, 31-3, Saturday night at McLane Stadium.
The former Mississippi State quarterback needs to become the Bears’ full-time starter.
Baylor soccer opened its conference slate against No. 15 Oklahoma State, a team they didn’t play in 2023. After a hard-fought match, the Bears succumbed 1-0 Thursday night at Betty Lou Mays Field.
Eyeing a bounce back after being swept on Tuesday, No. 18 Baylor volleyball opened the 13th annual Baylor Invitational by taking down LSU in a four-set thriller — 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 30-28 — on Thursday night at the Ferrell Center.

No. 4 Baylor women’s basketball advance to the semifinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament after beating Oklahoma State University in the quarterfinals 76-36 Friday afternoon.
No. 5 Baylor women’s basketball clinched an outright Big 12 championship for the first time in 11 years after demolishing Texas Tech University 82-57 on Sunday afternoon at the Ferrell Center behind a career-high 35 points from NaLyssa Smith.
Equestrian
Class from 8 a.m. until noon. Lunch. Then practice and rehab. Practice for four hours. Go home, eat and study. Try to be in bed by midnight.
Acrobatics and tumbling senior, Ginger Plemmons balances all of the above exceedingly well. She manages to stay focused on the mat and carries a 3.86 GPA.
“Well, I don’t get that much sleep. I mean you just have to stay motivated to succeed at both,” Plemmons said. “So I just study in between practice or really late at night. Whenever I have time really.”
Baylor’s equestrian team scrimmaged Saturday with an exhibition meet against Southern Methodist University. Baylor won Western 6-4 but lost Hunterseat 7-5 and the overall competition after a tiebreaker was enforced.
Baylor’s head coach Ellen White remained upbeat after the meet.
“It was exactly what we wanted to do,” said White.
It was an opportunity to see which players were going to step up and to work out the kinks of hosting an event, White said.
Energy levels were high as the Baylor Acrobatics and Tumbling team won its first meet of the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association season against Azusa Pacific.
The first half of the meet featured three events, each with multiple heats.
The three events were compulsories, acro heat and pyramid heat. There were 10 total heats from all three events combined.
Tennis
Interim head coach Michael Woodson has been a consistent presence for the Bears during his time in the program and has coached Baylor to a No. 2 ranking and a 16-2 record in dual-match play this spring.
No. 2 men’s tennis took down Arizona State 4-0 while the women bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Texas with a 4-2 win over Texas Tech.
Baylor’s eight-match winning streak was broken with the Bears loss to Texas Saturday. Baylor’s only other loss of the season was also to the Longhorns back in January.
Golf
The men’s golf team dominated its competition Monday and Tuesday in the Charleston Shootout, taking home the first-place crown in a tournament for the first time since 2009. It was a landslide victory for the Bears, who won the Charleston, S.C., tournament by 14 strokes.
The rays of light in the Sunshine State seemed to be missing the Baylor Lady Bears. Tuesday the women’s golf team finished 14th out of 15 in the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. This came on the heels of finishing 11th of 17 last week in the UCF Invitational in Sorrento, Fla.
A top-five finish to start the spring season is what the Baylor men’s golf team comes back to Waco with, from the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio.

In the 2023 season, Major League Baseball officials added the pitch clock to aid the speed of the game. After the season and now into 2024, I’ve seen that the pitch clock has been very useful and has accelerated the pace of the game.
