Men's Basketball
Basketball has become a worldwide phenomenon for individual style, both on and off the court. When it comes to Baylor men’s basketball, everyone knows the fashionista in the squad is: Senior forward Jalen Bridges, nicknamed JB.
Freshman guard Ja’Kobe Walter, five-star guard from McKinney, leads a loaded class of newcomers.
The Big 12 is continuing to change and evolve through expansion, and both Baylor men’s and women’s basketball have the chance to benefit from it.
Women's Basketball
NaLyssa Smith, widely considered the No. 1 pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, has done everything imaginable at Baylor, from winning championships to breaking records. While the 6-foot-4-inch forward from Converse is excited for the future, Smith’s focus is on having fun and enjoying the moment as well as what she’s been able to do as a Bear.
With three new transfer guards, James Akinjo, Jordan Lewis and Ja’Mee Asberry, have stepped up to help Baylor further excel their basketball program.
When Kim Mulkey announced she was leaving the Baylor women’s basketball program to coach at Louisiana State University, she shocked the Baylor nation, but Nicki Collen continues to prove the program is in good hands.
Equestrian
The acrobatics and tumbling team lost 280.2-274.38 to Oregon in their season opener on Thursday at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore. The Bears finished 5.82 points behind Oregon, the three-time reining NCATA National Champions.
“This meet was a great start to our season and will be a good stepping-stone to get better and better,” head coach LaPrise Harris-Williams said.
Baylor acrobatics and tumbling kicks off its 2014 National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association season against three-time reigning national champion Oregon at 9 p.m. today in Eugene, Ore.
The No. 2 Baylor equestrian team defeated Delaware State 16-4 Saturday at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco. The Bears record improved to 3-2 overall in their first meet of the spring semester.
Golf
The Baylor men’s golf team won the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate tournament in Verona, N.Y., by 11 strokes Monday.
Though her team was not offered an at-large bid to the NCAA West Regional May 5-7, junior Chelsey Cothran became one of six individual golfers offered an at-large bid to travel to Auburn, Wash. Cothran is the first Baylor golfer in program history to receive the individual bid.
Baylor women’s golf coach Sylvia Ferdon announced Tuesday she will retire after 17 years as the Lady Bears’ head coach. Her Baylor coaching highlights include 10 NCAA Regional appearances and three third-place finishes at the Big 12 tournament.

In the 2023 season, Major League Baseball officials added the pitch clock to aid the speed of the game. After the season and now into 2024, I’ve seen that the pitch clock has been very useful and has accelerated the pace of the game.
