The south end of 10th Street flooded with people celebrating the national championship win Monday night as the Waco police department and the fire department supervised the masses from afar.
Baylor baseball took their second four-game sweep of the season, defeating North Carolina A&T over Easter weekend to move to an 18-10 record.
The Bears are the last team dancing this year, taking down the formerly undefeated Bulldogs in the national championship game.
Already a national champion, the freshman hurdler has higher goals in mind.
The Bears were able to take several first place wins in their first home meet of the outdoor season.
“That’s the best team that I’ve seen in the seven years I’ve been at Houston,” opposing head coach Kelvin Sampson said. “They’re really, really good.”

Men's Basketball
On April 28, center Isaiah Austin surprised Baylor fans by deciding to return for his sophomore season. Ever since being recruited as a consensus five-star prospect, it was assumed that Austin would leave after his freshman season.
Coming off his freshman season, the Basketball Times named Austin a Freshman All-American. The league’s media also named him All-Big 12 Second Team center. Austin averaged 13.0 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game and 1.7 blocks per game on 45.9 percent from the field.
For the first time in over 20 years, No. 20 Baylor basketball was invited to take part in the Maui Invitational Tournament, one of the biggest preseason tournaments in the nation. Baylor fought their way to wins over Chaminade and Dayton before falling to No. 8 Syracuse in the title game.
The Bears opened the tournament against Division II Hawaiian college Chaminade. The Silverswords came out with a strong fight in the first half behind senior guard Christophe Varidel. The Swiss guard hit seven three-pointers in the first half to pull Chaminade within 45-45 at the half. Varidel finished with 42 points for the game, one off of the tournament record of 43.
The Bears earned a 69-64 victory Wednesday at the Ferrell Center to move to 4-0 on the season, despite letting a double-digit lead disappear when Charleston Southern cut the lead to 67-64 in the waning minute of the game.
Baylor sophomore center Isaiah Austin set the tone early with a massive block on the first play of the game for Baylor. The Bears scored the first eight points of the contest, including two jumpers from senior power forward Cory Jefferson.
Women's Basketball
The Baylor Bears will travel to Ames, Iowa on Saturday to take on an Iowa State team that is undefeated at home in Big 12 Conference play.
The Bears were off to an exceptional start in big 12 play but faltered against Oklahoma to lose their first Big 12 home game. Baylor looks to regain momentum by giving Iowa State its first loss at James H. Hilton Coliseum.
It only took a couple of seconds for senior center Brittney Griner to break the Big 12 scoring record.
She scored the first four points of the game as the No. 1 Baylor Lady Bears defeated Texas Tech 90-60 on Wednesday. She now has a Big 12 record 2,835 career points.
The No. 1 Lady Bears will take on Texas Tech at 7 p.m. today in Lubbock, and will try to build on the nation’s largest winning streak.
Baylor (8-0 Big 12, 18-1 overall) and Texas Tech (6-2 Big 12, 16-4 overall) are the top two teams in the conference.
Both teams have similar numbers in scoring defense. Baylor allows an average of 53.2 points per game whereas Texas Tech allows 53.4.
However, Texas Tech has to stop the Big 12’s best scoring offense.

In the 2023 season, Major League Baseball officials added the pitch clock to aid the speed of the game. After the season and now into 2024, I’ve seen that the pitch clock has been very useful and has accelerated the pace of the game.

If Baylor wins a Big 12 championship this season, Dave Aranda’s legacy would be cemented as the best head football coach to come through Waco.
