Day two of spring practice camp has come and gone for Baylor football, and one thing that’s clear is the competition for starting quarterback is still up for grabs.
The only team in the country to be a No. 3 seed or higher in each of the last four NCAA Tournaments, three-seeded Baylor men’s basketball did so with four new starters. Now, the Bears roll into a round of 64 matchup against No. 14 seed Colgate, which is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. on Friday at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn.
Baylor redshirt sophomore guard Langston Love must have picked up pennies on the tails side or walked under ladders growing up. Love is out for the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament with a series of ankle injuries, and the setback came after dealing with a torn ACL his freshman year, followed by an eye injury down the stretch of the 2022-23 season.
March Madness feels different when you’ve been there before. For those inexperienced mid-major teams that are making their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, there’s probably a feeling of “We’re just happy to be here.”
Before head coach Scott Drew took any questions on Wednesday, he addressed redshirt sophomore Langston Love’s status for the NCAA Tournament.
“The work has been done at this point,” Long said. “It’s just about going out there and executing your cues for every person, for sprinters, for jumpers, for throwers. It’s just about not letting the moment get too big.”
When Baylor football hit the field for its first spring practice on Tuesday, one thing was clear: The starting quarterback job is there for the taking, and the competition is unsurprisingly between fifth-year senior Toledo transfer Dequan Finn and redshirt junior Sawyer Robertson.
Baylor men’s golf wrapped up the All-American Intercollegiate with an eighth-place finish, thanks to a 3-over 291 on Tuesday at The Golf Club of Houston.

Baylor men’s and women’s tennis dominated the weekend, winning both Big 12 Championship crowns.
For the seventh time overall, the Baylor women’s tennis team won the Big 12 Championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 25 Oklahoma State on Sunday at the Bayard H. Tennis Center.
Baylor’s men’s and women’s tennis teams will compete in the Big 12 Tennis Championships this weekend.
Both teams come into competition as No. 1 seeds in the tournament and both the men’s and women’s championships will be played April 24-27 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.
The celebrations and Gatorade showers were in full force Wednesday night at Hurd Tennis Center. Baylor men’s tennis clinched the school’s 55th conference Big 12 title across all sports with a 5-2 win over the Texas Longhorns.
