People may think finance is all about making money, but according to Dr. Shane Underwood, Baylor students are among those who are learning to use their skills to help the world.
With summer rapidly approaching and finals on the horizon, preparation for residence hall move-out has begun. The Campus Living and Learning team has provided guidelines for students moving out of on-campus residence halls in the upcoming weeks.
The universitywide Civil Discourse Event: Perspectives on Free Speech on College Campuses covered varying opinions about the place of controversial topics, viewpoint diversity, bias and censorship Tuesday evening.
In partnership with Waco Habitat for Humanity, Amy’s Attic will host its first “Cars for a Cause” event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at 1821 South New Road. The event will include a car show along with local food trucks and vendors, raising funds for the humanitarian efforts of Habitat for Humanity.

The Common Grounds / Taqueria El Crucero taco truck was closed down last Thursday, although Common Grounds owner Blake Baston said the truck is currently looking for a new location to reopen.
A tweet posted to the Common Grounds Twitter feed Monday at 3:08 p.m. apologized to the campus and announced the closing of the truck.
Baylor’s School of Social Work Texas Hunger Initiative partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture, hosting 200 attendees during the first day of Together at the Table: Southwest Regional Hunger Summit to raise awareness in the community. The summit continues through today on the second floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
A student helped flip the switch for sustainable energy at a local high school.
Live Oak Classical School located at 500 Clay Ave. in Waco had a dedication for their new solar panels on Tuesday.
The solar panels, which were installed before the school year started, were paid for by a grant Woodway freshman D.J. Achterhof applied for last year.

Because of a $5,000 donation by an anonymous donor, the Humane Society of Central Texas can provide cost-free adoptions for 100 dogs at their upcoming Howl-A-Ween event.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Humane Society facility.

The Iran war is now in its 46th day. Iran responded by restricting access to Hormuz, which carries about a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil, and moving to toll vessels transiting the strait. Waco drivers are already feeling it. The local average hit $3.38 a gallon last week, up 21 cents in seven days and 75 cents year-over-year, according to AAA data.
Gas prices in Texas have surged more than 70 cents per gallon since the U.S. went to war with Iran three weeks ago. The near-total shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz has driven oil prices up more than 40%, pushing the national average to its highest point since 2023 and sending diesel past $5 for the first time in three years.
The largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East in decades unfolded as American and Israeli forces struck Iran Saturday, killing its supreme leader and triggering retaliatory strikes from the Gulf to Israel.
