An ensemble featuring the Chancel Choir and St. Paul’s Singers will perform Gabriel Faure’s “Requiem” at 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The choir will be directed by Shawn Cody Miller, Baylor graduate conductor of a cappella choir and chamber singers and associate director of music at St. Paul’s. It will include nearly 20 choir members. The instrumentalists include Baylor organ professor Dr. Isabelle Demers and a few horn students. Members of Zeta Zigga Zamma performed in the third annual Zing, a comical rendition of Sing, at 7 and 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Hippodrome – just two in a series of perfomances that began Sunday night. The acts were co-hosted by ZZZ president Corinth senior Mitchell Heffington and Conroe junior Lucas McCutchen. This weekend, I participated in my first half marathon, the Bearathon. Prior to this, the longest distance I had attempted to run at once was about 6 miles. The distance seemed daunting at first, but with the help of a wonderful running buddy, she and I progressively chipped away at the mileage. The morning of the race did not go quite as planned–we woke up late and ran a mile to the start–but we made it just on time for the singing of the national anthem and were able to start running with the crowd. Members of Baylor fraternities and sororities attended mandatory meetings on Sunday and Monday night, respectively to discuss issues covered by Title IX, such as sexual harassment and unhealthy relationships. In an effort to combat sexual crimes, Baylor’s Title IX office has implemented a required courses for various student groups. Chapel-based “Change the World in a Day” offertory focused on Shoot 4 Life this year, raising about $10,000. The money will be put toward building a basketball court in a rural village in Africa. Shoot 4 Life is a mission partner with BU Mission and uses basketball as a means to educate kids in Central Africa about integrity, environmental awareness and the love of Christ. In light of Super Tuesday, the attention of the presidential race turned to Texas. With students who are from many parts of the country, Baylor holds a large number of students who are not registered to vote in Waco. Students involved in the Baylor Democrats and Baylor College Republicans partnered in January to raise awareness among students for the election. Floyd Casey Stadium is undergoing demolition and many people are mourning the loss of this former home of the Baylor Bears. The work began in January and is expected to end in late spring or early summer. The stadium is being torn down in order to fulfill the $35 million Tax Increment Financing (TIF) grant given to Baylor for the building of McLane Stadium. A recent technology hoax at local Midway High School led to a discussion of social ethics with Jon Allen, Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer of Baylor ITS.
