The tire of a black Ford Ranger pickup truck blew out at 6:46 p.m. and caused the vehicle to turn on its side near the 2100 block of University Parks Drive.

The driver, Baylor employee Pablo Oliverez, said the truck flipped onto its side as he tried to avoid a light pole. He said he was wearing his seatbelt and felt fine when the truck finally came to a stop.

The truck was on its side, the driver door facing up, and lying in a ditch outside The Outpost apartment complex. Oliverez said the accident went by quickly and was not painful. Oliverez was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and walk around.

“I was just leaving work,” Oliverez said. “I was actually working late. It’s good too, because when I usually leave at 4:30 there’s a lot of cars on the road.”

The Waco Police Department officer on scene said that no other vehicles were involved and because Oliverez missed the pole, extensive damage was avoided.
