Two apartments near campus robbed

Two apartments, one at the 500 block of Daughtrey and one at the 2400 block of South University Parks Drive, were robbed Thursday.

In a press release sent Thursday, Waco Police Department Sgt. Patrick Swanton said officers responded at 12:20 a.m. to the aggravated robbery that occurred at the 500 Block of Daughtrey. A 21-year-old white male was in the apartment when two black males, armed with guns, knocked on his door and forced their way into the apartment when he opened it, the release said.

The victim said the suspects tied him up and looked through his apartment; police believe money and other possessions might have been taken by the suspects, Swanton said in the release.

The release said the victim was taken to the hospital to treat his injuries and the investigation is on-going.

In an interview Thursday, Swanton said two black males knocked on the door of an apartment at the 2400 block of South University Parks Drive at 11 a.m. and forced their way in. He said the suspects had at least one gun between them.

The residents of the apartment were reportedly tied up and assaulted, he said.

Swanton said the men left the apartment with some of the residents’ possessions, and their direction or destination is unknown.

The investigation is on-going, Swanton said.

In the press release, Swanton said the two robberies are similar, but “it is too early in the investigation to say if they are related or the same suspects.”
